Making an application

Personal attributes, qualifications and experience

We are looking for applicants with the motivation, commitment, resilience and ability to inspire a love of learning. These are the essential characteristics you’ll need to successfully complete the initial teacher training programme and progress in your career.

You’ll also need:

We are committed to attracting trainees from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, men and women, mature candidates, and those from under-represented groups. Many applicants will already have had significant experience of working with children or young adults, possibly as teaching assistants or in a voluntary capacity. Applicants often come from widely differing commercial or industrial backgrounds or other areas of the public sector and we recognise that they have the potential to bring valuable transferable skills and knowledge into the profession with them.  

How to apply

All applications for initial teacher training are made through the UCAS website. The site offers lots of helpful information and advice about making an application, including tips on preparing your personal statement, what references to include and what happens once you apply.

You’ll be able to apply for teacher training programmes starting in 2019 in mid October. Once you’ve registered with UCAS, select Ashmount School as the lead school provider (ID 195) to apply for a course with Loughborough Learning Alliance.

Successful applicants will be invited to interview in Loughborough. The interview involves written and mathematical tasks and group and individual interviews.

On successful completion of the interview, applicants are invited to undertake a three-day placement in one of our partner schools.  We’ve found that potential trainees really value the opportunity this placement gives them to gain a clear understanding of the kind of context in which they’ll be training.
