Specialist Leaders of Education

Specialist Leaders of Education are leaders identified by the National College as being able to provide exceptional support to schools in need within their specialist areas. SLEs have to apply through the National College and go through a selection, assessment, and monitoring process before they are allowed to deliver support to schools.

Our SLEs have expertise in:

SLE Designation:

We are always looking to recruit outstanding practitioners such as SLEs. SLEs are middle and senior leaders with the expertise to support schools. SLEs could be Subject Leaders, SENCOs, Business Managers, Early Years, Senior Leaders and exceptional teachers. This is a fantastic professional development opportunity, an opportunity to raise income for your school, to join a network of over 20 SLEs locally and 4000 nationally, and to support and influence the outcomes of children beyond your school.

If successful, SLEs will receive designation and be offered high quality free training through the National College. Once complete the Teaching School will deploy SLEs to support the needs of schools within and beyond the Teaching School Alliance.

All deployments will be negotiated between the employing school and the Teaching School, and funding will be reimbursed to schools for release. Currently there is an expectation that SLEs will be deployed for up to 15 days per year. Deployment opportunities will include targeted school to school support, involvement in projects, contribution to CPD events, leadership of networks, delivery of Initial Teacher Training, involvement in regional conferences and the opportunity to engage with and contribute to national policy.

SLEs are available for long-term support to subject leaders and to deliver staff meetings. Please refer to our SLE Directory to review the expertise of our SLE team. If you require support, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your needs in more detail.

National Leaders of Education (NLE) are outstanding head teachers or principals who, together with the staff in their schools (designated National Support Schools – NSS), use their skills and experience to support schools in challenging circumstances. In addition to lending their own schools, NLEs work to increase the leader capacity of other schools to help raise standards.

National Leader of Governance (NLG): An NLG is an experienced chair of governors who has a strong track record for leading school improvements and developing the governing body, from a school judged by Ofsted as good for overall effectiveness and leadership and management. They focus to develop leadership capacity, sometimes in partnership with an NLE. They provide support to a chair of governors in the form of:
